Principal’s Message:

Welcome back to a  new school year!  Our theme of the day and every day... is to be AWESOME! Putting your best efforts into your day, come with a good attitude and respect for all.  At Innisfil Central, we care about you and your child’s well being.  I am the new Principal of Innisfil Central, Jennifer Henderson.  I have over 27 years of teaching and administrative experience and LOVE what I do.  I have worked at many wonderful schools such as Assikinack, Goodfellow, Lake Simcoe and Birchview Dunes as a VP or P.  I look forward to getting to know you all over the course of the next few months and subsequent years.  Note- This is a long newsletter BUT VERY IMPORTANT to read thoroughly 🙂

Canine Ambassador Dog- Meet Zoey

Zoey is a small, loveable French bulldog / Boston terrier mix who will frequent our school as a certified ambassador.  She went through extensive training and was the oldest dog to graduate (10 years of age).  She is here to spread love.  Her home base will be in the office, but she will frequently be out and about with students and staff.  Welcome Zoey to SCDSB.

Medical Forms:

Annual notice to adult students or parent(s)/guardian(s) of students under the age of 16.

A completed Student Medical Form (FORM A1420 - 1) is required each school year, or when a medical need is identified, or when the student transfers to another school, in order to authorize medical response plan development and the administration of prescribed medication to students who require it during school hours, or when the medication and/or dosage requirements change.

Specific to asthma, every student is now permitted to carry their asthma medication if the student has their parent’s/guardian’s permission. Parent(s)/guardian(s) and adult students are responsible for ensuring that a current, completed Student Medical Form is on file at the school. Parent(s)/guardian(s) and adult students are also to complete a Plan of Care for students with prevalent medical conditions such as anaphylaxis, asthma, type 1 diabetes, or epilepsy/seizure disorder.

Some students may experience severe life-threatening allergic reactions to bee, hornet, wasp, or other flying insect stings or to certain foods or food ingredients such as peanuts. The best way to reduce the risk of accidental exposure for these students is to respectfully ask parent(s)/guardian(s) to avoid sending peanut butter or products with peanuts and/or tree nuts listed in the ingredients to school. For students with life-threatening allergies, it is recommended that two doses of an epinephrine auto-injector are available on site at school. Please do not hesitate to contact the school with any questions you may have.

Parent / Guardian To Do List

1.  Medical Forms & Plans of Care for: asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, epilepsy and / or other.

  • You must request a form from the office via email:  [email protected].  Be specific.

  • Even IF you have one on file from previous years or not scheduled for an updated version, you MUST complete this and bring it on the first day or prior to the first day of school.

  • This process is now done YEARLY.

  • Complete the form and bring it to the school with the necessary medication / puffer / epipen etc.  This is a PARENT / GUARDIAN responsibility.

2. School Cash Online (used for forms & permissions)

  • Parents/guardians will use a secure online account to complete ALL forms and process payments.

  • Create an account by using this link.

  • This can only be done once your child starts school and has a student number- this will go home with your child.

3.  Just registered for school- you must bring in the necessary paperwork (proof of birth & address confirmation using a rental agreement, tax bill or utility bill.  Not accepted is a drivers license or netflix/cell phone bill.   MUST be done prior to the first day of school in order to start.

4.  Read the STUDENT HANDBOOK together with your child (ren).

First Day of School

  • Riding the bus to school is a great way to start the new school year.  Please send your child on the bus (more information will come to you regarding busing by end of day Friday if need be).  Remind your child to remain seated and facing forward. No yelling or distracting behaviours for the bus driver- they have a very IMPORTANT job. Unsafe behaviours will not be tolerated and we hope you can help us review this with your child (ren).

  • Drop off on Day 1:  Students will be brought around the school from the buses into our back yard.  No parents will be allowed to enter the back yard area.  Don’t fret, even the younger ones will be assisted by staff members to the right area.  Students will be collected by grade and then teachers will bring into classrooms to review expectations and classroom placements.  They will have wonderful news to share with you after the first day of who their teacher is.

  • Class teachers WILL NOT BE SHARED prior to school start up. Please do not call the school for this information. Changes are inevitable, right up until Tuesday AM.  Again, your child will have super news to share with you at the END of the day… after the BEST DAY EVER!

  • Backpack should include: indoor shoes, snacks, water bottle, lunch, extra pair of socks / underwear / change of clothes (in case they need to change for whatever reason).

  • Other items such as binders, calculators, markers, crayons and pencil cases are NOT necessary but very helpful.

  • Donatable items such as: kleenex, paper towels are welcomed.

  • CELL PHONES- Students are NOT to use a cell phone or ear buds during school hours.  Special permission or accommodations with an IEP for earbuds and a MP3 player are accepted (speak to the special education staff for this).

Reaching your child- If you have to reach your child, please call the school, message the teacher (teacher may not read message due to teaching commitments) or plan ahead if possible.  If your child needs to connect with you, they can use the classroom phone (with teacher permission) or come to the office with an office pass and call from there.  Texting, using the internet and checking apps while at school is not allowed.  As you can appreciate, it is difficult to manage what students are doing on unwanted apps etc.  I Please HELP us with this messaging as it will be much appreciated.

DELAYS? DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL REGARDING BUS DELAYS, PLEASE…. To do the following below.

  • In order to receive delay and cancellation notifications, families could check the SCSTC website or download the ‘BusPlanner Delays’ app from the Apple or Android app stores to receive delay notifications to their devices.

  • You would need to select Simcoe County STC as the transportation authority.

  • The app will need to be forced closed, but you will be able to select your student(s) routes or school to receive delays for.

  • The app will send a general notice for any cancellation in Simcoe County or Muskoka.

  • You would only need to know which ‘zone’ you’re in, so you would know which one to look out for in the app.

  • Transportation (BUS)- CENTRAL WEATHER ZONE
